It almost feels like the sun isn’t going to rise today. That’s not me being maudalin, it’s actually that dark and gloomy outside. There’s only one option, makeup wise, today. That’s a bright red lip. It’ll kid anyone who sees me into thinking I’m more ‘polished’ than I actually am (bonus), and it goes with black – skies and clothes included!
Yesterday I introduced Michelle from Satchels and Pearls to the Nars Velvet Matte and Satin Lip Pencils, and it reminded me how fantastic they are. The forumlas are creamy, easy to apply, packed full of pigment and they last a really long time on the lips. On a day like today, they’re the perfect follie to an otherwise dreary day.
Dragon Girl is one of Nars’ Velvet Matte Lip Pencils – it’s a vivid siren red. Loud, bold and sassy. But, it doesn’t have to be worn at full pelt. It’s easy to dab this colour on with a finger lightly to give a stain if you’re looking for a subtle but classic look.

If Dragon Girl isn’t your colour, my other favourite Nars reds are: Cruella – another matte product, this is a deep scarlet, unashamedly sexy and dramatic; Hyde Park – described as a Cardinal Red, is an everyday satin, that wears really well; and finally Majella – a bright garnet that could easily be worn through Spring and Summer too, with it’s slight orange leaning – this is the one that Michelle ended up going home with yesterday, and it looked gorgeous on her.
What’s your go-to product when the day needs a bit of oomph putting back into it?
