Elemis have had their ‘spa pod’ at the counter in Leeds Harvey Nichols for a while, but I’d never ventured in – despite being a long time fan of the brands Pro Collagen Cleansing Balm and Frangipani Shower Cream – I was pleased when they invited me to try a ‘hands on’ Biotec Facial, which is a 15 minute taster session that gives a chance to try out the Biotec skincare range, while giving your skin a little boost.
The therapist was so lovely and explained the background behind Elemis Biotec products – they’re designed to renew cell energy – which in layman’s terms is giving your skin a really good kick up the bottom, and geeing it up into working at its best. For example, I know that if I don’t exfoliate regularly enough (I use a glycolic acid exfoliant mainly), and don’t use a hyaluronic acid-heavy serum, then my skin can look really dull.
Other things also impact how my skin behaves and I’d wager that it’s the same for you? If I’m sick, then the first place it shows is on my face. Same if I’m tired, or if I’ve been eating badly, or haven’t drank enough water. Also, medication wreaks havoc with my skin, leaving it dry and rough in places but spotty in others, no matter what I do.
This is where Elemis Biotec range seems to come in. It’s a very simple skincare system, as it only has 3 products in it – a cleanser, a day cream and a night cream. Because of the simplicity, I initially assumed that it wouldn’t do much for me, but I’m happy to say I’ve been proven wrong.
The facial consisted of a cleanse, tone, mask and moisturising treatment – tailored for my sensitive skin. After just 15 minutes, my face was glowing. I mean really, really glowing. I felt fresh, energised and it showed. I have had similar effects after a 1 hour facial in the past, so to get this so quickly is a dream. I would highly recommend nipping into Harvey Nichols for this quick treat if you work in Leeds City Centre, it is bound to be a real pick me up.
Testing the products at home proved to be just as effective. The cleanser – a light gel-textured second cleanse – left my skin feeling soft and comfortable. It didn’t bring on any redness or discomfort. The only negative for me here, is that it is designed as purely a second cleanse, so not a makeup remover. I can forgive that though for the after effects.
The day and night creams are dual phased. When you pump them out, you can see the serum and the cream separately. This is a pretty good time saver when you’re getting ready, and both have a readily absorbed texture, that left my face looking hydrated and smooth.
The range comes at a pretty stocky price-tag, but I reasoned that as it’s only three products – rather than my usual 7 (cleanser, exfoliant, toner, serum, hyaluronic acid booster and day or night cream), then it would technically work out cheaper. See, those beauty blogger maths do come in handy. I’m all for making savings in the long run, especially if it leaves my skin looking and feeling fresh, hydrated and glowing. Who wouldn’t want that?
