Well hello 2014! Hello to you, too.
I was almost sure any regular visitors to Music and Eyeliner would think I’d disappeared by now, but you’re still coming back, and I’m still here.
Any of you following me on Twitter (and if you’re not, then why not eh?) may have gleaned that I had back surgery recently – a good enough reason for not sitting at the computer blogging, I reckon! Well, recovery is slow going and it would be easy to be climbing the walls, but I have been doing a few things, and thinking about a few things to keep me going.
|New year, new journal. I am writing every day, let’s see if I can keep it up!|
Don’t get this wrong, this is most definitely not a moaning post. It’s rather, a post about staying positive. I’ve always been a believer in a positive mental attitude (PMA!), in that it helps me to achieve goals, and generally get on in life. But sometimes, it really needs to come into play. This is definitely one of those times.
Mindfulness and positive thinking, for me, is a way of appreciating the situation I’m in, and making the absolute best of it. Even if that situation may look like a total stinker at the time, there will always be a way to spin it so it’s not so bad. At the moment, my key thoughts are ‘I need to work to ‘now’; understand I can only do what I can do’. Sounds kind of obvious I suppose, but it really helps to stop me thinking too much about things I want to do but can’t quite yet. It also helps in situations where panic or anxiety sets in. Just to appreciate the things I can do, rather than what I can’t.
That’s really what it’s about at the moment. Those little achievements, moments of success and looking to the future through a realistic lens. It’s easy to be tough on yourself and wallow in the can-nots, have-nots and all that – but really, how lucky are we right now? What are the up-sides?
Even sitting here, writing this, I feel fortunate. Fortunate to be able to write, to have simply sat up and done it, to have people out there (Hiya!) that read it.
Okay, I know this is very much off my normal blogging track, but I wanted to share that.
Good? Let’s have a look what’s coming up on this here blog, shall we?
- Some absolutely amazing music and gigs. I will be posting about these soon.
- An update on ‘the month of no money’ aka January. No beauty expenditure for me, but maybe I’ll finally get through my Laura Mercier bath and body stash (really, it’s pretty daft).
- A heck of a lot of reviews of products I’ve been testing, trialling and generally stashing.
